Teeth Whitening
At home teeth whitening – for a brighter, whiter smile
Teeth whitening involves bleaching your teeth to make them lighter, using a peroxide gel. If you feel your teeth are slightly yellow in colour or stained & you have tried Hygiene and Airflow treatments, then teeth whitening is the next best step for you.
Teeth whitening is a form of dentistry and should only be carried out by a dentist or another regulated dental professional, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist, on the prescription of a dentist.
Some beauty salons offer tooth whitening, but this is illegal if there’s no dental professional present, and it may put your oral health at risk. You can find more information about NHS guidelines for tooth whitening on the NHS website here.

What does teeth whitening treatment involve?
To proceed with whitening, you must be dentally fit. Therefore we will book you in for a thorough dental examination before proceeding with treatment, to ensure that whitening your teeth is the best option for you, and won’t cause any damage to your teeth/gums. After you have been assessed and are dentally fit for treatment, we will create your custom whitening trays.
No need for nasty impressions!
Traditionally, you would need to have dental impressions taken in order to create your bespoke trays; the process of which involves the patient biting down into a gooey substance for a few minutes. Unfortunately, the process can also be unpleasant, especially if you have strong gag reflex. Thankfully, at DrBK we offer impression-free whitening!
At DrBK we use the very best technology in 3D intra-oral scanning, so instead of the horrible process of impressions, we can simply take a 3D scan of your teeth/mouth and create your bespoke trays that way – win win!
Once the trays have been made we will check the fit and instruct you on how to use the bleaching gel. You can then whiten them at a time to suit you, at home or at work and even when you are sleeping. You may need to wear the whitening trays for a few hours each day for a couple of weeks to get the desired shade, but most people report getting their desired result within 3-5 days.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long until I see results?
You may need to wear the whitening trays provided during your appointment at our cosmetic dental clinic for a few hours each day for a couple of weeks to get the desired shade, but most people report getting their desired result within 3-5 days.
Is tooth whitening permanent?
No, tooth whitening isn’t permanent. It can last from a few months to up to three years, but this varies from person to person. Generally, the whitening effect won’t last as long if you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, or consume anything which can stain your teeth.
Will tooth whitening work on false teeth?
No, tooth whitening will not work on false teeth i.e. crowns, veneers, fillings or dentures. We will be able to advise you within the consultation appointment if this applies to you.
What are the risks of tooth whitening?
If you already have sensitive teeth, it is common to gain slightly more sensitivity after whitening. We have different strengths of bleach available, if you are sensitive you can use a lower dose gel and also a desensitiser this will allow you to whiten your teeth comfortably, it just might take you a little longer. There’s also a chance of burns to the gums, if performed incorrectly, we will ensure you know how to use the tooth whitening products before you leave.
