TMD stands for temporomandibular disorder and is a condition that affects the movement of the jaw and can be extremely painful, causing issues with eating, sleeping and talking. TMD includes bruxism and over 30 other conditions.

Bruxism is the term given to tooth grinding and can lead to worn down teeth and a vastly increased tooth sensitivity.

TMJ is often used when referring to TMD conditions, but TMJ actually refers to the jaw joints themselves. Therefore, you have two TMJs. Each connects the lower jawbone to the skull. You may see various TMD conditions referred to as TMJ dysfunction or TMJ disorders. As a result, the services provided to help rectify them are often known as TMJ treatments or TMD treatments.
